What is the Culture Guild?

During my senior year of high school a group of friends and I needed an excuse to go on adventures and broaden our own horizons in the relatively sheltered Cache Valley. We became "The Culture Guild" and we had fantastic times.

But first, what does that broad word "culture" even mean? The Oxford Dictionary answers:

Culture

the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively: 20th century pop culture
    • a refined understanding or appreciation of this: men of culture
    • the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group: Caribbean culture/ people from many different cultures
    • [with modifierthe attitudes and behavior characteristic of a particular social group: the emerging drug culture
So what makes up Culture? Anything you want. For this blog it consists of art, music, movies, and literature. But that word "literature" is deceptive because it includes prose, poetry, drama, fiction, non-fiction, biographies, political reviews, news articles, scintillating comics, essays, song lyrics, impressions of travel adventures, you name it. It's anything you think Braeden might want to look at, watch, or read when he comes back from his mission.  And something you think the rest of the Culture Guild might enjoy as well.

One further clarification: This is not a club. This a guild. What is a guild? I think the Oxford Dictionary can explain this one better as well.

Guild

a medieval association of craftsmen or merchants, often having considerable power.
  • an association of people for mutual aid or the pursuit of a common goal.
  • Ecologya group of species that have similar requirements and play a similar role within a community.
There you have it. Combine the definitions and you have the Culture Guild. An association of people for mutual aid and the pursuit of refining and understanding the arts and other manifestations of human intellect, including; the customs, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or social group. A worthwhile endeavor if I do say so myself.
